The Three Graces 2023

Beauty, humour and bloom. A modern depiction of The Three Graces is from the perspective of a queer woman of colour artist, the celebration and importance of platonic relations where a candid, joyful moment between friends.

The Three Graces reference the Greek mythological goddesses, known as Aglaea (who represents radiance), Euphrosyne (representing joy) and Thalia (representing flowering). Their purpose was pleasure and all that was good – they were the goddesses of play, happiness, relaxation, charm, beauty, nature, creativity and fertility. Popularised by renaissance paintings including Raphael Sanzio Three Graces (c. 1503–1505) and Sandro Botticelli, La Primavera (Spring), 1477-1482 the Graces have often become the protagonists and muse of creative inspiration.

The Three Graces embodies this goddess-like behaviour in our contemporary life in Noongar Boodjar where three women of colour cultivate this main-character energy.
